Right well here I am once again. I had had a water leak which came up as an advisory on the MOT all that time ago so I thought I would sort it. It was coming from the coolant flange  (sorry, that always makes me laugh that word). I thought it may have just been the o ring but it wasnt, the actual flange  had a crack in it too. A new flange  and o ring was ordered.

At this point I would like to say how stupid the metal hose clamps are that vw use. Took me nearly an hour to get two off grrrrrr. Well once everything was cleaned up and put back together again and topped up the moment of truth, wouldnshe start as she had been sat there for over three months and hadnt been started. I didnt need to worry really as she turned over first time, took a lot lonber the come to temp this but I think tats because it hadsome coolant in it this time Nd when the fan did kickin it didnt take long to cool again.

Also my trick of just doing little things to the car is also paying off as ive have finished replacing bits on the front seats and , got both of them tilting, sliding and more stable then before. I will try to get some pics up at some point but ive been a bit lazy on that front.

well all I need to get her motd is a new front tyre, some new brake pads and give her a bit of a service. Fingers crossednothing else needs doing.

If you take the switch out of the gearbox and clean it up, you may find it starts working again :)

Mole grips are your friend with the metal hose clips, I think they are well engineered and much better than Jubilee clips!
