Right, Project Boris. Brother project of Doris, who may get a thread of her own soon!

Afraid it's not a Scirocco, but what the hey!

CBR 600 F - K "Jellymould"

Bought from ebay - of course - part of a pair, I got the one that was just a frame and a box of parts, and 6 large bags... I've never even sat on a bike before, let alone looked at one in detail so this was to be a bit of fun for me.

Pretty much how it arrived. It had already skinned my elbow quite badly, but that's another story

About 2 half days later I'd got the meat done.

Once all that was together I worked on starting the engine. Battery borrowed from Doris and I couldn't get the engine to turn over. It went "eugh". The starter was working hard, but the engine didn't move. Blockage in the cylinders. Bugger. Started working on taking the spark plugs out, turns out you need a special tool for that. Bugger again! I tried turning the engine backwards by hand, figuring that it was water in the bores, or petrol, and that would eject the stuff out the exhaust ports if I could get the valves to open. Eventually by turning backwards and on the starter some water started shooting out the exhaust ports. Luckily no exhaust downpipes were fitted so it was all clear to see.

So, engine turns over on the starter...

No starting though, not even a cough!

Some stripping later and I found the carbs full of water and emulsified petrol :( Quick removal of carbs and wash out with clean petrol, re-installation... Way-hey! It starts with a bit of coaxing :)

Since then I started sourcing some parts. Exhaust downpipes, in nice stainless steel, and a link pipe to the exhaust silencer, or "can" as they seem to be called. My cheap project bike looks like costing more than a new one now though as this seems to be a fairy rare one on ebay etc. The fairing is very hard to come by, so I might have to change my mind of returning the thing to showroom spec :(

Anyway, how it looks now.

Yes, it'll rev to 13,000 rpm! It develops peak power at 12,000 rpm iirc...

Planning on it, yes. But the cost makes it a bit prohibitive for the time being.
