Tim's Scirocco
Modifications
With 143bhp on tap this black beastie can give some very expensive machinery a real fright.
The engine develops that with the aid of 1st oversize pistons.
A decked block and skimmed head raise the compression ratio nicly,
while the breathing effort is reduced by a very ported head using a standard cam
The expiration is taken care of with a mk1 golf exhaust manifold, Jetex middle section and
a carbon fibre Micron bike can. Which is fairly loud.
The rev limiter was coming in at 5700 so it's been binned.
Power is brutally released to the asphalt by a close ratio gearbox with a quaife diff.
Ride is taken care of by Avo coil-overs with 375Lb springs up front and 250 Lb on the rear. The steering benefits from a Quaife quick rack.
There is a front 26mm ARB, but the rear is removed as it's stiff enough already.
With that much go, there needs to be some stop also, so Tim has fitted front calipers from a Volvo 240 Turbo which clamp onto modified disks from a Rover 216 GTI, while the rear retains it's original drums.
There is no interior to speak of - 2 light weight bucket seats with harnesses and an aluminium roll cage in the back made by Allards (which is for sale).
The current weight is at 820 Kg, which gives a very pleasing power to weight ratio of 174 bhp/ton. Not bad for an old 1.8 8v!
